Dominion still has pending lawsuits against election deniers such as Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell

Dominion Voting Systems, a leading provider of voting technology, continues its legal battle against high-profile defendants Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, both of whom have propagated unfounded allegations about the company’s role in the 2020 Presidential election. The lawsuits, filed in January 2021, are part of Dominion’s efforts to fight back against disinformation and restore confidence in the integrity of its systems.

Dominion, a Denver-based company, maintains that Giuliani and Powell, lawyers and staunch supporters of former President Donald Trump, knowingly spread false information about the company’s role in the election. Both Giuliani and Powell have claimed, without evidence, that Dominion’s voting machines were manipulated in favor of President Joe Biden, thereby affecting the outcome of the election.

The company is seeking more than $1.3 billion in damages from each defendant. In its 107-page complaint against Giuliani, Dominion stated that he had “manufactured and disseminated the ‘Big Lie,’ which foreseeably went viral and deceived millions of people into believing that Dominion had stolen their votes and fixed the election.”

In a similar vein, the 124-page lawsuit against Powell alleges that she “promoted a false preconceived narrative” that included “wild accusations” and “outlandish claims” about Dominion, which have caused “unprecedented harm” to the company.

Both Giuliani and Powell have remained unyielding in their assertions, despite numerous lawsuits, the lack of credible evidence, and the dismissal of their claims by multiple courts. Their statements have been widely discredited, including by former Attorney General William Barr, who said that the Justice Department found no evidence of widespread voter fraud that could have changed the outcome of the 2020 election.

Dominion’s lawsuits are part of a broader effort by the company to combat the disinformation that has proliferated since the November 2020 election. The company has also filed lawsuits against MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell and Fox News, seeking $1.3 billion and $1.6 billion in damages, respectively, for their roles in spreading false information about the election.

These lawsuits represent an assertive legal strategy by Dominion to defend its reputation and the integrity of its products. The company believes that these false claims have not only harmed its business but have also undermined public trust in the democratic process.

“Through widespread disinformation campaigns, these individuals have created an environment where a significant portion of the public distrusts the election results,” said Dominion CEO John Poulos. “This has far-reaching consequences for our democracy, and it’s imperative that we counter this narrative with truth and legal action.”

The lawsuits against Giuliani and Powell are still in the preliminary stages, with no trial dates set as yet. Both defendants have filed motions to dismiss the lawsuits, but Dominion has countered with strong opposition, stating that their motions are “without merit.”

Notably, these lawsuits are not the only legal troubles for Giuliani and Powell. Giuliani’s law license has been suspended in New York and Washington D.C. over his false statements about the 2020 election. Powell is facing potential sanctions for her role in a failed lawsuit seeking to overturn the election results in Michigan.
